The Government of Indonesia has set up a Task Force for the Post-Popular Consultation of East Timor (Satgas P4TT) through the decision by the Co-ordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs. The Task Force consists of the special staff members stationed in Jakarta and the field staff members deployed in Dili, East Timor. Ambassador Taufik Rachman Soedarbo will lead the Task Force office in Dili.

One of the duties of the Task Force office in Dili is to help liaise the local Indonesia authority and the offices of UNAMET and INTERFET. The liaison function will help ensure the smooth and orderly implementation of the New York Agreement (5 May 1999) during the post-popular consultation and the discharge of the UNSC resolution 1264 adopted on 15 September 1999.

An advance team of the Satgas P4TT will leave for Dili on Thursday, 23 September 1999, to prepare for the establishment of the Task Force office in that city.
