SECURITY COUNCIL CONDEMNS THE BOMB ATTACKS IN BALI
The Government of the Republic of Indonesia welcomes Resolution No.1438
(2002) adopted by the United Nations Security Council in New York on Monday
evening, 14 October 2002, at around 19.30 New York time (or 07.30 Jakarta
time, Tuesday morning, 15 October 2002). The adoption of the UN Security
Council Resolution is the result of diplomatic efforts to secure the full
support from the international community to the Government and people of
Indonesia in combatting terrorism and sympathy for the humanitarian tragedy
that took place in Bali, Indonesia.
The Security Council Resolution, consisting of two preambular paragraphs
and four operational paragraphs, condemns in the strongest terms the bomb
attacks in Bali on 12 October 2002. The UN Security Council also expresses
its deepest sympathy and condolences to the Government and people of Indonesia
and to the victims of the bomb attacks and their families.
Also, the UN Security Council urges all states to work together urgently
and to cooperate with and provide support and assistance to the Indonesian
authorities in their efforts to find and bring to justice the perpetrators.
The UN Security Council also expresses its reinforced determination to
combat all forms of terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities
under the Charter of the United Nations.
