Commander, Minister donate relief supplies to cyclone victims in Ayeyawady Division

Yangon, 1 May — Accompanied by officials concerned, Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South West Command Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung and Secretariat member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs and for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Thein Zaw arrived by car at Chaungtha Beach in Ayeyawady Division yesterday and met and encouraged the storm victims at the Dhammayon building of Pyilonchantha Pagoda. Next, the commander and the minister presented K 500,000 and relief aid each to the victims. Pathein District Peace and Development Council also donated K 200,000, and relief supplies including 40 bags of rice and 30 viss of cooking oil to them. The commander, the minister and party inspected the resort hotels, condition of the beach after being hit by the cyclone and hotel and tourism services. Some hotels and guest houses at the beach were hit by the cyclone but hotel and tourism services remain smooth and operational. The commander and party proceeded to Ngwehsaung Beach and inspected hotel services, condition of the resort beach by car. They also inspected paving of concrete road along the beach being undertaken by entrepreneurs and road condition of Ngwehsaung. Afterwards, they went to Pathein and met USDA members at the office of Ayeyawady Division USDA. They explained national policies of the association and nation-building tasks. Later, cash and kind were donated to the storm-hit households in Ayeyawady Division. Minister Brig-Gen Thein Zaw presented K 2 million and 100 bags of rice donated by the USDA (Headquarters) and Vice-Chairman of Htoo Trading Co U Zaw Min K 1 million to the secretary of Ayeyawady Division PDC and the chairman of Pathein District PDC.

Swimming pool, recreation centre open at Kandawgyi Park

Yangon , 1 May — Kandawgyi swimming pool and recreation centre in the education zone of Kandawgyi Park opened today. Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hla Htay Win and Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin attended the opening ceremony held in the park. Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint and Managing Director of Woodland Co Ltd U Win Aung formally opened the swimming pool and recreation centre. Commander Brig-Gen Hla Htay Win unveiled the signboards of the facilities. The commander and party visited the swimming pool and recreation centre. The swimming pool is 32 metres long and 17.3 metres wide. The depth of the pool, which can hold up to 170,000 gallons of water, is from three feet to nine feet. Near the swimming pool stands a 264-foot by 66-foot two storey-building housing a changing room, a gymnasium and a coffee shop on the ground floor, and a 700-seat capacity multi-purpose hall on the first floor. Swimming courses will be also opened at the pool.

NLD inept at performing its duties to show correct way to regional development, national consolidation, nation-building tasks Tangyan Township NLD members resign en masse

Yangon, 1 May — All 12 members of Tangyan Township National League for Democracy in Shan State (North) resigned en masse from the party by sending their letter of resignation to NLD (Lashio) and Tangyan Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commission on 30 April. They were U Hsan Win (Chairman of Ward-1, Tangyan), U Aung Pu (Vice-Chairman of Mongpat Village, Tangyan), U Hsan Tun (Vice-Chairman-2 of Ward-1, Tangyan), U Aik San (Member of Ward-3, Tangyan), U Sai Ko Ko (Member of Ward-6, Tangyan), U Kham Hsaung (Member of Mankat Village, Tangyan), U Sai Hsan Byaing (Member of Mankat Village, Tangyan), U Sai Tun Kya (Member of Mankat Village, Tangyan), U Sai Ngo (a) U Sai Kyaw Naing (Member of Mongpat Village, Tangyan), U Zaw Min Oo (Joint-Secretary of Ward-1, Tangyan), U Sai Hsa (Member of Ward-2, Tangyan) and U Tun Thein (Treasurer of Ward-4, Tangyan). In the letter, they said Tangyan Township NLD was formed in 1988 with 12 members led by Chairman U Hsan Win. From its inception to carry out party duties, the objectives of the party were to implement party politics in collaboration with the local people and to strive for social improvements of the people. However, it was found that NLD was inept at performing its duties to show the correct way to regional development, national consolidation and nation-building tasks. The government on its part has been striving its utmost in the interests of the State and the people. So, it can be witnessed that all the national people are now enjoying fruits of development. The NLD members gave priority to personality cult and ism, which caused deep divisions within the party. Consequently, the letter says, the 12 members resigned from the party on 6 April. As all the 12 members had resigned of their own accord from the party, Tangyan Township National League for Democracy office was closed on 13 April.

Yangon, 1 May — U Sai Hpa (a) U Sai Hla Pe, central executive committee member (organizer) of Shan Nationalities League for Democracy, representative-elect of Kyaukme Township Constituency 1, had been considering his resignation from the party since 1992, as he lost interest in it. As he was aloof from the party functions and had no interest at all to serve them any more, U Sai Hpa (a) U Sai Hla Pe, holder of citizenship scrutinizing card No 12/Takana (Naing) 090312, resigned from the CEC member of the party and representative-elect of Kyaukme Township Constituency 1. He submitted his letter to quit from SNLD as a member and a representative-elect to Kyaukme Township Multiparty General Election Sub-Commission Office on 7 April and to quit from the SNLD as a CEC member to the party headquarters in Yangon . He also submitted his resignation as a representative-elect to Multiparty General Election Commission in Yangon in person and on own volition on 30 April. In the letter he submitted to the Multiparty General Election Commission in Yangon, he wrote that he lost interest in the SNLD’s functions that were against his own will after the party left the National Convention; that as he was distant from the party functions and had no interest at all in the party operations, he quit from the party responsibilities, CEC member and representative-elect; that in view of the national solidarity, he accepted “non-disintegration of the Union’ as the main requirement; and that he supported the on-going National Convention.

Trainees of Naval Higher Command Course of India tour Yangon

Yangon, 1 May — A study group comprising 26 trainees of Naval Higher Command Course of Indian Forces of the Republic of India, accompanied by senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence and Military Attaché of the Indian Embassy Col Jasvinder Singh Chopra, visited War Cemetery in Htaukkyant this morning. They were welcomed by Col Win Naung of Mingaladon Station and officials. The study group was conducted round by Regional Manager of the War Cemetery U Oscar. The trainees paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and laid wreath. They proceeded to Defence Services Institute of Medicine where they were welcomed by Rector Brig-Gen Min Thein greeted the trainees and explained the institute to them. The leader of the study group and Rector Brig-Gen Min Thein exchanged souvenirs. The group visited the academic learning of cadets. In the afternoon, the group visited Defence Services Museum where they were welcomed by Lt-Col Zaw Win of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute. In the evening, they visited the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Myanmar delegation leaves for India

Yangon, 1 May— A Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Finance and Revenue Maj-Gen Hla Tun left here for India to attend the 39th annual meeting of Asian Development Bank to be held from 3 to 6 May in Hyderabad, India. The delegation was seen off at the airport by Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha. President of the Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung, Director-General Daw Myo Nwe of Foreign Economic Relations Department, Director Daw Ohnmar Sein of CBM and Deputy Director U Min Htut of F&R Ministry accompanied the Minister for F&R.

Minister inspects fishery in Pantanaw

Yangon, 1 May — CEC Member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein yesterday inspected No 4 fish breeding camp of Phyo Ayeyar Co Ltd of USDA in Pantanaw Township , Ayeyawady Division. In Pantanaw Township , there are 1,711 acres of fish pond of USDA HQ. At the fish breeding camp No 4, the minister gave instructions on matters related to breeding and sale of fish. During his tour of Pantanaw Township , Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein also inspected the Fisheries Department’s Pathwe Hatchery which produces 6 million fingerlings a year. After inspecting the hatching of fingerlings and ponds, he gave instructions.

Commander, Mayor visit conjoined twins in Mandalay Central Women’s Hospital

Nay Pyi Taw, 30 April — Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Khin Zaw, together with Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Phone Zaw Han and officials on 26 April morning arrived at Central Women’s Hospital in Chanayethazan Township where conjoined twins were deliversed by caesarean-section. Medical Superintendent Dr Daw Khin Swe Win and OG Dr Nilar Aung reported on caring of the twins and their health condition. Next, for the funds towards the caring of conjoined twins, Central Command and Mandalay Division PDC donated K 500,000 each. After that, the commander and party visited the parents of the conjoined twins and presented cash assistance. The conjoined twins were born of U Zaw Win and Daw Cho, 31, of Thein Kan Village in TadaU Township . The twins were deliversed by caesarean section of Mandalay Central Women’s Hospital by a surgical team led by OG Prof Dr Saw Lwin at 8.30 am on 24 April. The conjoined twins weighed 4.05 kilograms. Both the babies and mother are in good health. In the afternoon, the commander visited the summer paddy plantation of the local battalion in Mekinkon Village in Patheingyi Township and the 100-acre of summer paddy plantation of MCDC. They later inspected tarring of some roads in Aungmyethazan Township .

Cultivation of physic nut, research work inspected in Hlegu Township

Yangon, 1 May— Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hla Htay Win inspected cultivation of physic nut and research work, greening tasks of 30-mile radius of Yangon city and supply of water for cultivation of summer paddy in Hlegu Township yesterday. The commander arrived at Hsinphon river water pumping station near Hsinphon Village in the township. Deputy Director of Division Water Resources Utilization Department U Htay Lwin and officials reported on the project. The commander called for cooperation among the departments concerned for full cultivation of summer paddy. He also inspected the progress of work. The commander and party inspected the site for Sitpin river water pumping station to be built by WRUD and Yekyaw river water pumping station near Yekyaw Village . The commander and party went to Mental Health Hospital (Yangon) and Chairperson of Yangon Division Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committee Daw Mar Mar Wai presented K 200,000 donated by Yangon Division MCWSC to Psychiatrist Dr Aung Zaw Myint.They proceeded to Vegetables Research and Development Centre of Myanma Agriculture Service and inspected local physic nut seeds, graft plantations, tissue culture and the farm. There are about 500,000 saplings at the centre and they will be distributed to growers and departments. A workshop on research and technology development on cultivation of physic nut will be held soon. Altogether 100,000 acres of physic nut will be grown for 2006 in Yangon Division. The commander and party went to Ngamoeyeik river water pumping station near Mokso Nyaungbin Village . Deputy Director of Division Water Resources Utilization Department U Htay Lwin and Project Officer U Mya Than reported on progress of the project. The commander gave instructions on speedy implementation of the project. In meeting with local people, members of social organizations and staff at Township Peace and Development Council Office, Chairman of Township PDC reported on regional development.

5th Myanmar ICT Week concludes

Yangon , 1 May— The 5th Myanmar ICT Week attracting 79 ICT companies was crowded with enthusiasts of information and communication technologies today at Tatmadaw Convention Hall here.

The ICT week sponsored by Myanmar e-National Task force concluded today and150 booths were staged at the ICT Week. Video conferenc-ing system and wireless system of live video conferencing were demonstrated at the booth of MMG Technologies. Latest equipment of the information and communication technologies were on sale at reasonable prices.

Commander and wife attend physic nut plants growing ceremony

Yangon , 1 May — Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hla Htay Win and wife Daw Mar Mar Wai, Chairperson of Yangon Division Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committee attended the ceremony to grow physic nut plants of MCWA of No 11 LID yesterday. Col Myat Thu of No 11 LID reported on growing of physic nut plants at the regiments. The commander and wife presented physic nut saplings to the family members of regiments and battalions. The commander and wife encouraged those taking part in growing of 3,000 physic nut saplings. Later, they went to Yaung Ni Oo library of Wah Natkon village in Hlegu Township . Daw Mar Mar Wai presented publications to the library.

Two land mines explode in Kyaukkyi, two seriously injured

Nay Pyi Taw, 1 May — Two land mines exploded on 26 April in Kawpyin Village in Kyaukkyi Township , Bago Division, and one of the explosions blew off a villager’s left leg. On 26 April morning, Maung Ye Tun, 20, Maung Tun, 20, and Ma Thin Mar Oo, 28, of Kawpyin Village went to the farm near the village. On their way, Maung Ye Tun stepped on a land mine planted by insurgents; the mine exploded and he sustained injury at his toe. When Ma Thin Mar Oo came to his aid, another land mine exploded and the second explosion blasted off her left leg under her left knee. The officials have given treatment to the injured, and Tatmadaw men and police were in hot pursuit of the insurgents. In an attempt to undermine the prevalence of law and order and to kill the innocent people, insurgents have committed acts of terrorism.

New restaurant to serve sea food

Yangon, 1 May — Ocean King Sea Food Restaurant was opened at New Ayeyar Hotel on Bo Aung Kyaw Street in Botahtaung Township on 29 April. The sea food restaurant employing Chefs from Guangdong Province of China will serve a buffet with over 100 dishes of meal from 11 am to 2.30 pm and from 5 pm to 11 pm daily at reasonable prices. Deputy Director-General of ministry of the Hotels and Tourism U Tin Maung Shwe and Chairman of Yangon (East) District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein formally opened the restaurant.

Spirulina beer to be on market

Yangon, 1 May — Spirulina Gold Beer Factory of Myanma Foodstuff Industries under the Ministry of Industry-1 was opened today in Ahlon Township . The factory will distribute the beverage made from spirulina algae enriched with vitamins and mineral. Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Wai Lwin formally opened the factory in the presence of journalists and guests. Before the opening ceremony, Managing Director of Myanma Foodstuff Industries U Soe Hlaing and Factory Manager U Khin Soe briefed on the production process and purpose of the factory.

Dagon BEMS-2 pays respects to retired teachers

Yangon, 1 May — Old students of Basic Education Middle School No 2 today paid respects to retired teachers at the school in Dagon Township . The former male and female students organized the ceremony to pay respects to the teashers and a total of 80 retired teachers — 40 aged over 60 and 40 aged under 60 — attended the ceremony.

Yangon Division clinches champion title of U-13 Football Tournament

Yangon , 1 May — Yangon Division defeated Defending Champion Mandalay Division 2-0 in the final match of 9th States and Divisions U-13 Youth Football Tournament at Aung San Stadium this afternoon. Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint presented the first prize to Yangon Division team. Two goals from Kyaw Zeya helped Yangon Division team clinch the champion of the tournament. Although Mandalay team tried to defend its champion title at the tournament, they did not show off their dazzling performance so that they could defeat the Yangon team.
