Royal Thai Air Force Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk and wife arrive on goodwill visit

YANGON , 2 May — A Thai delegation led by Royal Thai Air Force Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk and wife arrived here by air on a goodwill visit this morning. The delegation was welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Myat Hein and wife Daw Htwe Htwe Nyunt, senior Air Force officers and their wives, Thai Ambassador Mr Suphot Dhirakaosal, Military Attaché’ Col Prissapa Suvanatat and their wives and officials.

First, Lt-Gen Myat Hein and Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk took salute of the Guard of Honour from the dais at the airport and inspected it.

At 10.30 am, Lt-Gen Myat Hein received Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk and party at Zeyathiri Beikman on Konmyintha. Also present at the call were senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, Thai Ambassador Mr Suphot Dhirakaosal and Military Attaché’ Col Prissapa Suvanatat.

In the afternoon, the Thai goodwill delegation, accompanied by officials, visited Mingaladon Air Base Headquarters. Commander Brig-Gen Zin Yaw welcomed the guests and extended greetings and briefed on background history of Mingaladon Air Base Headquarters.

In the evening, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Myat Hein hosted a dinner in honour of Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk and wife and delegation members at Mingaladon Air Base Headquarters.

Also present at the dinner were Lt-Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence and wife Daw Khin Thet Htay, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hla Htay Win and wife, Commander of Mingaladon Air Force Base Headquarters Brig-Gen Zin Yaw and wife, Brig-Gen Ye Chit Pe of Mingaladon Station and wife, senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, Thai Ambassador Mr Suphot Dhirakaosal and Military Attaché’ Col Prissapa Suvanatat. Before and during dinner, those present were entertained with songs and music.

Later, the Thai goodwill delegation visited the Shwedagon Pagoda and made cash donations for the funds of the pagoda.

Kalay Station plans to put 5,200 acres under physic nut plants Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspects Kalay Airport

YANGON, 2 May—Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint of the Ministry of Defence inspected Kalay Airport in Sagaing Division on 30 April.

At the lounge of the airport, Kalay District Senior Engineer U Saw Han of Public Works reported on progress of resurfacing and upgrading of the runway in 2005-2006 fiscal year. Chairman of Sagaing Division PDC Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Tha Aye gave a supplementary report.

Lt-Gen Ye Myint looked into the work site and gave instructions on the project. The 4,480 ft by 100 ft runway was extended to a 5,500-foot facility in 1995-96, and it was resurfaced in 2005-2006.

He attended the growing of physic nut plants at Kalay Station. Brig-Gen Kyaw Oo Lwin of the station gave an account of the work. Lt-Gen Ye Myint planted physic nut saplings together with the officials. He also inspected the farm, which is scheduled to be put 5,200 acres of land under physic nut plants.

Next, Lt-Gen Ye Myint inspected the pig farm of Kalay Station and instructed the officials to step up the breeding tasks to further distribute pedigree pigs to not only regiments and units but also to the people.

At the meeting in Aung San Hall in Kalay Station with officers of regiments and units of Kalay Station and their families, Lt-Gen Ye Myint called for their participation in the five rural development tasks, demonstration of agriculture and livestock farms to become models to local people, extended growing of physic nut and cultivation of other suitable crops. He also inspected the nurturing of rubber and physic nut saplings at the nursery near Aung San Hall.

YANGON, 2 May — Eight members of Hsipaw Township National League for Democracy in northern Shan State resigned from the party after submitting a collectively signed letter to Hsipaw Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-Commssion of their own volition at the end of April 2006.

U Myint Swe, vice-chairman 1, Kon Kyaung village, U Kyaw Aye, vice-chairman 2, Taungmyo Ward, U Zaw Tun, secretary, Zay Ward, U Myint Aung, township organizer, Myanmar Ward, U Tun Tun Maung, township organizer, Pantaing North Ward, U Sai Tun Naw, township organizer, Namhunwe village, U Sai Tun Lin, township organizer, Twante village, and U Sai Hsai, member, Monglin village, of the township, also presented a report on their resignation in the letter.

In the letter they said that they joined the NLD in August 1988, with the aim of serving the locals’ interest through clean party politics; that but the NLD instead of serving the locals’ interest in view of the nation development, had been gradually becoming a threat to regional peace and security; that they were dissatisfied with the NLD as they had become a-good-for nothing group living as a separate class aloof from the people always opposing the government and the nation; that they did not accept the NLD’s stance to rely on aliens, and ignore the internal strength, while slandering the nation from the destructive point of view and turning a blind eye to the national developments; that their region had been achieving peace and stability as never before thanks to the leadership of the government and the endeavours of the local authorities, that paved the way for the national race armed groups to exchange arms for peace, and to join hands in the regional development undertakings; that they resigned from the NLD as they loved the policy that actually serve the interest of the nation and the people, and they did not need to work with the group whose main aim was to grab power it coveted too much.

Initially, the Hsipaw Township NLD was formed with 17 members. Now eight persons led by U Myint Swe had resigned from the party, other members U Ohn Myint, U Tint Swe and U Sai Tin Aung had left the township, and another member U Ohn Kyaw had passed away. Hence there are now only five members left at the township NLD.

General Secretary of UMFCCI meets foreign guests

YANGON, 2 May— General Secretary of Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry U Sein Win Hlaing, Joint-Secretary-1 Dr Maung Maung Lay and officials, on 28 April, met Chief Economist Mr Akio Kawato of Research Institute of Development Bank of Japan and discussed matters on foreign investments in Myanmar and trade with neighbouring countries.

The general secretary and party also met Chief Representative of South and South East Asia Region of Vneshtorg Bank of Russia Mr Oleg A Dyukov and Mr Daljeet Ahluwalia of Silver Wave Energy of India. They discussed matters relating to opportunities for investment, banking services, exchanging trade delegations and holding trade fairs.

North-East Command organizes physic nut growing ceremony

YANGON, 2 May—Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of North-East Command Maj-Gen Myint Hlaing and Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung attended the growing ceremony of physic nut plants in the 100-acre model farm of the command on 28 April.

They observed the demonstration of a generator operated and stove run with the use of physic nut oil. They planted physic nut grafts into plastic bags.

They presented plastic bags of physic nut saplings to departments and visited the ceremony and inspected physic nut plants. On arrival at the physic nut research farm of the command, they heard reports by Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hla Myint and officials on arrangements for growing physic nut in the upcoming rainy season and means being sought to produce quality physic nut oil. The commander and the minister inspected the farm.

In meeting with the staff of the Ministry of Forestry at the office of the deputy general manager of the Myanma Timber Enterprise in Lashio, the minister elaborated on objectives of the ministry, preventive measures against illegal timber extraction and bribes, and importance of carrying out the duties with a sense of duty.

On 29 April, he met the staff of the ministry in Muse.

At the office of Mansi Township Forest Department, the township staff officer reported on measures for exposing illegal timber extraction, and plantations of trees. The director and deputy director of Kachin State Forest Department gave supplementary reports. The minister assessed the reports and inspected the nursery.

At the manager’s office of timber extraction area of the Myanma Forest Department in Bhamo, he heard reports by officials on plantations of trees, prevention of illegal timber extraction and progress of timber extraction. The minister gave instructions on timber extraction tasks. Next, he met with the staff.

He also met the staff of the Ministry of Forestry at the director’s office of Kachin State Forest Department.

On 30 April, he held a meeting with the ministry’s staff at the office for rafting of the MTE in Shwegu.

Yesterday, he visited the timber extraction site in Setkalar reserved forest and inspected timber plantations in Shwegu reserved forest in Shwegu Township .

Next, he visited the 1,500-acre teak plantation of Momentum Wooden Way Co, the teak nursery, the 450-acre teak plantation, and rafting station of the company in Mabein Township .

Upon arrival at the 500-acre teak plantation of Indawn reserved forest in Htigyaing, Director U Ye Tint of Sagaing Division Forest Department reported on the plantation. The minister stressed the importance of nurturing teak plantains yearly, and inspected the teak nursery. He also inspected Mya Taungya rafting station in Htigyaing and No 15 sawmill (Tanga) in Madaya.

Culture Minister makes tour of inspection in Bagan

NAY PYI TAW, 2 May — Minister for Culture Maj-Gen Kyi Aung on 30 April inspected re-construction of Arimadanapura Golden Palace of King Anawrahta in Bagan Archaeological Zone and visited the archeological museum.

Officials concerned reported to the minister on the construction tasks for 2005-2006 fiscal year.

During his tour of inspection, Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung also inspected renovation of some stupas in the zone and the construction of the stone pillar on which a record for the renovation of 1,175 stupas from 1995 to 2005 will be inscribed.

The minister yesterday went to Nyaung U Township and visited a 15-foot-diametre tamarind tree and 40-acre Ingyin forest. He also visited Thitsawadi Pagoda and donated cash to the Pagoda Board of Trustees.

Make use of electronic media, print media to counter and rebut false accusations against nation USDA Joint Secretary-General addresses opening ceremony of Basic Journalism Course No 5

YANGON , 2 May — The opening ceremony of Basic Journalism Course No 5, organized by the Union Solidarity and Development Association was held at the meeting hall of USDA Headquarters this morning.

Present on the occasion were Joint Secretary-General of USDA U Zaw Min, CEC Members Minister Thura U Aye Myint, Yangon Mayor U Aung Thein Lin, Deputy Minister U Thein Sein, Deputy Minister U Nyan Tun Aung, Vice-Mayor U Maung Pa, heads of department, course instructors and trainees.

First, Joint Secretary-General of USDA U Zaw Min delivered an opening speech on the occasion, saying that USDA was standing tall as a national force among the citizens in the country and implementing the national goal laid down by the Government for the emergence of a peaceful modern developed democracy-flourishing country. Since the establishment of the association, five objectives, four basic principles, four oaths and 11 codes of conduct and 14 tasks prescribed were followed and future tasks laid down were implemented every year. USDA could strongly build its associations from the central level down to grassroots level during over 12-year period and was participating in nation-building endeavors in full swing. Local people joined hands with USDA in its nation-building tasks. So far the membership of USDA rose to over 23.1 million. USDA has been nuturing its members to become qualified ones by conducting courses and workshops. USDA was shaping a future State by bringing up its members to be good and able citizens. Some foreign news agencies holding negative views were not only broadcasting fabricated news by taking advantage of technology gap but also interfering in internal affairs. So USDA members were to counter such false accusations by making use of electronic media and printed media.

He said peace and stability, strong national economy and human resources were three factors indispensable for building a peaceful modern developed nation. The people were enjoying peace and stability due to the strengthened national consolidation. The Government, the people and the Tatmadaw were carrying out development tasks day and night. Moreover they were building the national economy through internal strength.

He added that arrangements were being made for promotion of national education and development of human resources. The country was rich in natural resources necessary for development. Sound foundations of peace and stability, prevalence of law and order, strong economy and human resources were at hand in the country.

With the implementation of development tasks, seven-step Road Map was laid down to build a discipline-flourishing democratic nation. USDA members were doing their bit for realization of the State’s future policy. Union patriotic spirit meant Our Three Main National Causes. Efforts were being made for flourishing of Union patriotic spirit. The trainees were to discharge the duties assigned. They were to try to learn the lectures given by the instructors during the course to become qualified public relations personnel on whom USDA could rely.

They were to shoulder their duties for realization of 12 objectives, seven-step Road Map and future tasks of the association upholding Our Three Main National Causes.

After the ceremony, Joint Secretary-General of USDA U Zaw Min and CEC members cordially greeted the trainees. A total of 52 trainees are attending the nine-week course.

Educative talks for women

YANGON, 2 May — Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation organized educative talks at Earth Industrial ( Myanmar ) Co Ltd in No 1 industrial estate in Dagon Myothit (South) here today.

After an introductory address by Chairperson of the company Daw Khaing Zaw, Head of Organization Department of MWAF Dr Daw Nyunt Nyunt Oo gave talks on the federation. Daw Khaing Zaw presented 150 membership applications to her.

Writer Ma Sanda gave talks on self-improvement to over 300 young women of the company.

Civil Service journal in circulation

YANGON , 2 May — Journal of Myanmar Civil Service No 2 Volume-3 of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board comes out today.

The journal contains the speech of the Head of State Senior General Than Shwe delivered at BEd Course No 37 of University for Development of National Races on 20 January 2006. The 171-page issue also features civil laws, article on interviewing and affairs of service personnel at home and abroad.

The book costs K 1000 per copy and is available at Building No 17 of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board in Nay Pyi Taw, CSSTB on Strand Road, Yangon, Serpay Beikman Building on Merchant Street, Book Shop of the News and Periodicals Enterprise, Innwa Book Shop on Sule Pagoda Road and Tun Oo Book Shop, Naga Book Shop and Mya Nyunt Swe Book Shop in Mandalay.

YMBA to celebrate centenary

YANGON, 2 May — Young Men’s Buddhist Association will celebrate its centenary at National Theatre in Dagon Township on 9 May and at YMBA in Pazundaung Township on 10 May.

The historical articles and documentary photos of the association will be displayed at YMBA from 11 to 13 May, and there is no entrance fee to the centenary exhibition. YMBA was established on 10 May 1906.

Award-winning book published

YANGON , 2 May — Sarpay Beikman Book Association published an award-winning book “Yadana Thon-thwe” (The Three Gems) for its members today.

Compiled by U Thaung Ngwe, the book won the first prize in Sarpay Beikman Manu-scripts Award (Arts category) for 2002.

The book is available for the members in Yangon at association at 529/531 Merchant Street . Copies are distributed to places outside Yangon .

Pyi Myanmar Journal marks 10th anniversary

YANGON , 2 May — A ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of Pyi Myanmar Journal was held at Yuzana Garden Hotel on Alanpya Pagoda Road here this evening.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Information U Thein Sein, Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung) and CEC members of Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association, departmental officials, officials of social organizations, literati, mediamen and those from journals and magazines.

Chief Editor of Thutaswezon Publishing House Dr Tin Tun Oo and wife donated K 200,000 for the 4th MWJA Conference through Chairman U Hla Myaing (Ko Hsaung). Next, the staff of Pyi Myanmar Journal were presented cash awards and dinner was hosted to those present. Later, a lucky draw programme followed.

YANGON , 2 May—The lucky draw of Khind Electrical & Electronic was held at Seingayha Super Centre on Pyay Road here on 29 April.
