Curriculum Vitae of Mr Bouasone Bouphavanh Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic

His Excellency Mr Bouasone Bouphavanh was born on 3 June 1954 in Salavanh Province of Laos. He started his early schooling in Salavanh and Champasak Provinces in Laos from 1961 to 1974. In 1990, he obtained his Bachelor Degree from the Communist Party Institute in Moscow, former Soviet Union.

From 1974 to 1980, he served in the Cabinet of Champasak Province and from 1981 to 1994, he served in the Cabinet of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. Then he served as Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office from 1994 to 1996. He became a Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Chief of the Cabinet of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party from 1996 to 2001. He then served as Member of the Political Bureau of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Standing Member of the Political Bureau of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party from 2001 to 2003.

He was appointed as Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Standing Member of the Political Bureau of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party from 2003 to 2006. He has been serving as Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic since June 2006.

HE Mr Bouasone Bouphavanh is married to Madame Sumly and they have four children.

Lt-Gen Myint Swe receives leader of Defence Services Soccer team of Islamic Republic of Pakistan

Yangon, 6 Nov-Lt-Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence received leader of Defence Services Soccer team of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Brigadier General Muhammad Naseem Khan, who arrived here to play a friendly match against their Myanmar counterparts, at the Zeyathiri Beikman on Konmyinttha this morning.

Also present on the occasion were Commander of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command Commodore Win Shein, Commander of Mingaladon Air Base Brig-Gen Zin Yaw, Principal of Defence Services Martial Arts and Sports Institute Col Htein Lin and senior military officers, Defence Attaché of Islamic Repubic of Pakistan to Myanmar Col Zafar Jamil and officials.

Lt-Gen Kyaw Win attends ceremony to present prizes to distinction winners and cash assistance in Shan State (North)

Nay Pyi Taw, 5 Nov - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Kyaw Win of the Ministry of Defence during his recent tour of Lashio together with Chairman of Shan State (North) PDC Commander of North-East Command Brig-Gen Aung Than Htut, officials of SPDC Office and responsible personnel attended a ceremony to present prizes to outstanding students and cash assistance for 2006 in Shan State (North) on 1 November.

First, Joint Education Officer of Shan State (North) U Mya Htut briefed Lt-Gen Kyaw Win and party on efforts made for students to pass the matriculation examination successfully in 2006 and management for enhancement of education standard.

Next, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win presented prizes to six-distinction winner Ma Thinzar Tun and 13 five-distinction winners from No 6 Basic Education High School of Lashio Township and Commander Brig-Gen Aung Than Htut, 11 four-distinction winners and 9 three-distinction winners.

Afterwards, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hla Myint presented 9 three-distinction winners and an outstanding student Maung Aik Naing of Youth Training School of Social Welfare Department in the matriculation examination of 2006. Next, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hla Myint presented K 100,000 each to 11 outstanding students from 2003, 10 from 2004 and 11 from 2005 matriculation examinations. On behalf of the outstanding students, Ma Zar Zaw Win of Hsipaw BEHS, Ma Thandar Lin of Lashio No 1 BEHS and Mway Kham Hon of Lashio No 6 BEHS accepted prize money.

Next, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hla Myint presented prizes to Maung Htein Nan of Lashio No 3 BEHS,who stood third in arts combination subject in the whole country and Ma Kha Ya from Nant Phat Kar Village BEHS, who stood sixth in the same subject.

Afterwards, Joint Education Officer U Mya Htut handed prizes to officials for best matriculation examination pass rate of townships, Moemaik, Lashio and Naungcho, and for best matriculation examination pass rate schools, Moemaik BEHS (Branch) Magyibin, Lashio No 1 BEHS and No 4 BEHS.

Next, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win made a speech on the occasion and cordially greeted faculty members and students and posed for a documentary photo. Afterwards, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win and party paid homage to Maha Myatmuni Replica Buddha Image and offered flowers, water and lights to it. Later, Lt-Gen Kyaw Win and party paid homage to Presiding Sayadaw of Siri Mingala Mansu Shan Kyaungtaik Bhaddanta Pu?ananda and donated alms.

Upon arrival at the new building of No 23 BEMS Affiliated School, schoolhead Daw Aye Aye Myint and U Tin Ko Ko of Asia World Company briefed Lt-Gen Kyaw Win and party on construction tasks of the new school building and Commander Brig-Gen Aung Than Htut gave supplementary reports.

Myanmar, Pakistan Tatmadaw soccer teams play friendly

Yangon, 6 Nov - Myanmar Tatmadaw soccer team played a friendly with the Defence Services team of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at Youth Training Centre here this evening.

Lt-Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence, senior military officer's of the Army, Navy and Air Force, military attaches, Tatmadawmen and families of Army, Navy and Air Force and football fans watched the match.

Rector of Defence Services Medical Academy Brig-Gen Ya Pyae and leader of the visiting team Brig-Gen Muhammad Naseem Khan greeted the footballers of the two teams.

Temporary Myanmar Passport Issuing Offices open in border towns

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 Nov - Temporary Myanmar Passport Issuing Offices for Myanmar workers working at present in Thailand and those who want to work in Thailand were opened today in Myawady, Kawthoung and Tachilek, the border towns, simultaneously.

Brig-Gen Myint Naung of regional battalion formally opened Temporary Passport Issuing Office at the reception camp in No 3 Ward, Myawady, Col Myint Tun of Kawthoung Station the office in Ayeyeiknyein Ward in Kawthoung Township and Chairman of Tachilek District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Zaw Moe Aye the office in Sansai B Ward in Tachilek Township.

Temporary passports will be issued in a day for Myanmar citizens who will work in Thailand only.

Applications of 8,961 Myanmar workers based in Bangkok, re-commended by the Ministry of Labour of Thailand, were sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar for the first time. Testimonials for 30,000 applicants will be .

No one signs in public signature document in Kanbalu, Sagaing Division  Fake petition made with phoney signatures and names in Kalay

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 Nov - As lies and tricks used in collecting phoney petitions were exposed in some townships, news reports on them have already been featured in the dailies.

An ex-executive of NLD U Kaung Tun of Lethse village, Zeegontaung village-tract, Kanbalu Township, Shwebo District, Sagaing Division, went to Zeegon village to collect public signatures on 17 October. Villagers refused to give their signatures as they have already read in dailies that the government had already called in the members of the so-called ?88' generation students group for questioning as required. The villagers said that no demand was necessary to be made through the signature campaign.

Ten NLD members of Kalay Township NLD presented a petition to township NLD chairman U Ka, saying that they had collected 1950 signatures. But the truth is that although the NLD members organized the public to obtain signatures, the people refused to sign in the so-called petition. So, they made phoney signatures of their own family members and other persons to compile a fake petition.

Ministry of Mines holds Communal Kathina robes offering ceremony

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 Nov - Under the auspices of Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint and Daw San San, the first Kathina robes offering ceremony of the families of the Ministry of Mines was held at Thiri Yadana Hall of the ministry on 3 November.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Presiding Nayaka Sayadaw Pannida Nanda of Pannida Rama Monastery and members of the Sangha, Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint and Daw San San, the directors-general, the managing directors of the departments and enterprises under the ministry and their wives, and families of the staff.

Firstly, the congregations received Five Precepts from the Sayadaw. Those present offered Kathina robes and provisions to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha and shared the merits gained.

Later, they offered ?soon' to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha.

Wellwishers urged to donate CI sheets to Pantapwinttaung Monastic Education School

Yangon, 6 Nov-Donation of Corrugated iron sheets and doors may be made for Pantapwinttaung Monastic Education School in Taikkyi Township, Yangon North District.

The donation includes 249 windows each of which is K 7,200, 26 doors each of which is K 54,000, 15 corrugated iron sheets each of which is K 36,000.

Donations for ten toilets each of which is K 360,000 and the refectory under construction may also be made.

10th Communal Kathina robe offering ceremony held in Pantapwinttaung

Yangon, 6 Nov - Under the patronage of Pantapwinttaung Sayadaw Principal of Pantapwinttaung Monastic Education School Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Pa-asara, the 10th Communal Kathina robe offering ceremony was held at the monastery in Taikkyi Township on 4 November morning.

Wellwishers offered Kathina robes and provisions to the Sayadaw. They also presented exercise books for the students of monastic education school to the Sayadaw and shared the merit gained. In the evening, wellwishers offered 9900 lights to the pagodas of the Pantapwinttaung.

First communal Kathina robe offering ceremony held

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 Nov-The Ministry of Electric Power No 2 held its first communal Kathina robes offering ceremony at the meeting hall of the ministry here on 1 November.

First, the congregation opened the ceremony with three-time recitation of Namo Tassa and received the Five Precepts from Shwein Yeiktha Pariyatti Sarthintaik Presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Naymaindha.

Next, Minister for Electric Power No 2 Maj-Gen Khin Maung Myint and wife Daw Win Win Nu donated Kathina robes and alms to the Sayadaw and so did departmental heads.

Afterwards, the congregation shared merits gained and alms were meal was offered to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha.

Cash donations for World Vipassana Pagoda in India

Yangon, 6 Nov-The 6th cash donation ceremony of Shwedagon Pagoda replica World Vipassana Pagoda being built in Mumbai, India, will be held at the Dhammajoti Vipassana Centre on Ngahtatgyi Pagoda Road in Bahan Township here on 12 November morning. Donations for the pagoda may be made at the above-mentioned centre, according to the Religious Affairs Department.

The pagoda's corner stones were laid by Sayadaws of State Maha Nayaka Committee, well-wishers led by World Buddha Meditation Dhamma instructor U Goenka will organize the cash donation ceremony.

Gifts for expectant mother prisoners

Yangon, 6 Nov-The social organizations have been providing necessary assistance to expectant mother prisoners and mother prisoners with children of the respective jails on humanitarian grounds. Chairperson of Prisons Department Maternal and Child Welfare Association Daw Nwe Ni San and members provided three mother prisoners who gave birth to children at Insein Jail with five pieces of clothes, one packet of milk powder, one packet of crackers and one packet of biscuit each.

Course for Regional Economic Integration in ASEAN and Third Countries opens

Yangon, 6 Nov - The course for Regional Economic Integration in ASEAN and Third Countries undertaken by Civil Service Selection and Training Board under the programme of the ASEAN Secretariat and the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plan Project among the ASEAN nations was opened at Traders Hotel this morning.

Director-General of CSSTB U Hla Kyi delivered a speech and Project Officer of IAI Unit of ASEAN Secretariat Ms Chandrasa Edhityas Sjamsudin spoke on the occasion. Also present were Assistant Manager Ms Rachel Ho of International Trade Institute of Singapore, course instructors Mr Rajesh Sreenivasan and Ms Margaret Liang.

The course was attended by 20 trainees from departments and organizations and it continues till 8 November.

The CSSTB serves as a focal point regarding the course on public sector capacity building under the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plan Project among the ASEAN nations. It conducted seven courses in 2006 and is making arrangement for opening of two more courses.

Supreme Court (Nay Pyi Taw) disposes of two special civil appeal cases

Nay Pyi Taw, 6 Nov-The Special Appellate Bench comprising Deputy Chief-Justice of Supreme Court (Mandalay) U Khin Maung Latt, Supreme Court (Yangon) Supreme Court Judges U Khin Myint and U Chit Lwin sitting at court room No 1 of the Supreme Court (Nay Pyi Taw) delivered judgement of two Special Civil Appeal cases and heard five Special Civil Appeal cases under Section 7 of the judiciary law, 2000.
